Vinnel J. Vincent, Host, Mar 6 | Hospice Hope 2020
Mrs. Vincent, a native Jamaican, is a Registered Nurse and became a Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse/CHPN® in 2006. She graduated University Hospital of the West Indies and attended Long Island University. Emphasizing more than 20 years in Home Health and Hospice, she was also a Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association Approved Educator. She is licensed by the State of Texas Board of Nursing (U.S.) and is a member of both the Texas Nurses Association and American Nurses Association. She has developed and operated a licensed, certified Home Healthcare Agency for 6 years and has authored several inspirational and educational books, following her passion for good quality End Of Life Care.
Tricia Simone, Mar 6 | Character Building to Enhance Care Giving
Tricia Simone was born in East Coast Brooklyn, New York to Jamaican parentage and raised in the deep south of Houston, Texas. No wonder her perspectives on various complex life issues are through a unique and diverse lens! Simone is a Life Navigation Strategist and Self-Esteem Activist. In “A Pocket Guide To: My Life Resume,” she is a decidedly intense, fiery, and passionate spirit who aims to ignite discussion, invoke ideas and challenge audiences to explore life’s hidden paradigms. Simone travels the world as a public speaker and promotes self-awareness by providing strategies that reveal an individual’s strengths, patterns and possibilities. The methods employed empower others to make confident decisions that launch them into their desired future.
Dr. Michele J. Prendergast, Mar 7 | Lecture: The Benefits of Medicinal Cannabis
Dr. Prendergast currently serves as the Casualty Officer at Medical Associates Hopital and Medical Centre, a private health care facility in Jamaica, offering a wide range of medical services of the highest quality to their patients, with care, compassion and kindness. She is also the Managing Director of Manor Medical Centre Limited which she established in 2018. Manor Medical is a general and family medical practice providing quality inhouse treatement for acute and chronic non-life threatening illnesses. Dr. Prendergast speaks often on the science behind medicinal cannabis and hemp-based CBD products, and readily accepted this opportunity to open dialogue with medical professionals on best practices for the dispensing and use of Medicinal Cannabis.
Dr. Dingle Spence, Mar 7 | Lecture: Palliative Care Principles, Pain and Pain Management
Dr. Spence is a Jamaican physician with training in both Clinical Oncology and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Spence is the Senior Medical Officer of the Hope Institute Hospital, Jamaica's only dedicated oncology and palliative care unit. She is also an Associate Lecturer in the Department of Medicine at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica, and is currently the Acting Head of the Department of Radiotherapy at the Kingston Public Hospital. In 2005 she instigated and continues to teach an introductory course in palliative medicine for medical students at the University. Dr. Spence is currently working with the Medical School at the University of the West Indies to develop a Diploma in Palliative Medicine and to have palliative care medicine recognized as a medical specialty in Jamaica.
